About the Healthy Berrien Consortium

Vision
To improve the overall health of Berrien County

Mission
To work in collaboration with community health organizations to help facilitate improvements in health and wellness of our community

Statement of Purpose
The Healthy Berrien Consortium has adopted a conscious strategy of pursuing collaboration and integration to continuously improve the health and wellness of the entire community. The Consortium, comprised of private, public and ancillary providers, will seek to involve consumers, governments and businesses to better leverage community health resources to create an excellent community health care system.

History
Began as Healthy Berrien 2000 in the early 1990s

  • 1998: Reorganized as Healthy Berrien Consortium. Interested physicians and leaders of health care organizations agreed to regularly meet, setting aside differences, for the health of Berrien County.
  • 1999: Hosted community Forums of Health entitled “Aging in America in partnership with U.S. Representative Fred Upton.
  • 2000: Sanctioned and contributed to the first Berrien County Behavioral Risk Factor Survey conducted in 2001
  • 2001: Hosted community Forums of Health entitled “Telehealth…Connecting Healthcare to the Future” in partnership with U.S. Representative Fred Upton.
  • 2002: Infant Mortality Reduction campaign collaboration initiated
  • 2003: Falls Prevention campaign collaboration initiated
  • 2004: Sanctioned Berrien Health Plan
  • 2006: Smoke Free Berrien collaboration initiated
  • 2008: Reducing Obesity collaboration initiated
